Answer
What is an AI growth marketing agent?
An AI growth marketing agent is software that runs marketing work with limited human input: researching a market, choosing channels, planning campaigns and drafting the assets. The good ones genuinely compress research and first drafts. Where they differ sharply is whether anything they produce is ever actually published.

The short definition
An AI growth marketing agent is software that takes a goal and works backwards through the marketing steps on its own. It reads your site and your competitors, picks channels, builds a calendar, and writes the assets against that calendar. The word "agent" is doing real work in that sentence: it signals that the steps are chained rather than prompted one at a time.
The category is genuinely new. Two years ago this was a text box that produced a paragraph. Now it produces a plan and then executes the writing part of that plan without being asked again.
What they are actually good at
This is worth stating plainly, because most writing about the category is either vendor copy or reflexive dismissal.
Research compression is the strongest capability. Competitor teardowns, positioning options, keyword and question sets, channel shortlists, audience descriptions: work that used to take a contractor a week arrives in an afternoon and is usually structurally correct. For a founder who has never written a landing page or a content brief, that is a real change in what is possible.
The second thing they do well is remove the blank page. Volume and consistency of format are close to free now. A voice sample of a few thousand words is usually enough for the output to stop reading like generic software copy.
Neither of those is a small achievement. If your problem is that you do not know what to say, this category solves your problem.
The distinction that decides everything
Products in this space split into two groups that share almost identical marketing language and behave completely differently.
| Drafting agent | Execution service | |
|---|---|---|
| What it produces | Plans, briefs, drafts, calendars | Published posts, live pages, sent sequences |
| Where the output lands | A document, a dashboard, a queue | The live channel |
| Who presses publish | You | Someone other than you |
| What it assumes you have | Time and someone to review | Approval, and not much else |
| Fails when | Nobody on your side has capacity | The channel needs standing nobody has built |
Almost everything sold as an "AI growth marketing agent" today is in the left column. That is not a criticism. The left column is a legitimate product with real customers. It is just not the same purchase as the right column, and the homepages do not distinguish between them.
How to tell which one you are looking at
Ask one question. After this software finishes running, what exists in the world?
The honest test is the integrations page, not the hero section. Take Jasper, which is one of the more established products in the category and positions itself as an agent workspace for marketing teams. Its published integration list contains no native publishing destination for a CMS, a social network, an ad platform or an email platform. The export integrations deliver .docx and .png files into Google Drive, SharePoint and Box. Jasper documents WordPress publishing as running through Zapier or Make, which needs an API token and a Business plan.
To be fair to Jasper, its Chrome extension does overlay LinkedIn, WordPress, HubSpot and Gmail, so drafting happens where you already work. The accurate description is not that it lacks integrations. It is that you still press publish in the other tool. That is exactly right for the customer Jasper builds for, which is a marketing team that already employs the person pressing publish.
Where the category stops
The word "agent" implies autonomy, and the autonomy is real up to the moment the work has to enter a channel that has opinions about who you are.
Some channels are pure API problems and are already solved. Your own blog is one. A personal LinkedIn profile is one. Others are not API problems at all. Posting into a community where an account with no history reads as an advertisement is not a permissions issue and no product roadmap fixes it. Replying to a sceptical comment in a way that helps rather than inflames is a judgment call made in public with your company name attached.
Any honest description of this category has to include that boundary. A product that plans well and drafts well and stops at the queue has done most of the work that can be automated, and none of the work that gets you found.
