Split a draft into a thread that reads
This splits long text into a numbered thread, packing whole sentences into each post so nothing breaks mid-sentence. The character limit and numbering style are both editable, and a sentence longer than the limit on its own is split at word boundaries with a note telling you where it happened.

Your thread
1/3 Most founders publish content and then wonder why nobody read it. The publishing step takes minutes. The distribution step takes hours, and it is the one that decides whether the piece does anything at all. Here is the version that works. Write the piece once. 2/3 Pull the three strongest paragraphs out of it. Turn each one into a post on the channel where your audience already is. Answer every reply for the first two days. 3/3 That is four hours of work per piece, and it is the difference between a piece that gets read and an identical piece that does not.
Character count per post
| Post | Characters | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 264 / 280 | Fits |
| 2 | 166 / 280 | Fits |
| 3 | 135 / 280 | Fits |
Every post breaks between sentences, so each one reads as a complete unit. Before posting, read post one on its own. If it does not work without the rest of the thread, move your strongest line to the front.
How this works
What the numbers mean.
- 01Text is split into sentences first, then sentences are packed into posts until the next one would not fit. Nothing is cut mid-sentence unless a single sentence is longer than the whole limit.
- 02The numbering marker is counted against the limit before packing. A thread that fits at 280 characters stops fitting the moment you add 12/17 to the front of every post, which is the failure most splitters produce.
- 03The post count changes the width of the marker, which changes the budget, which can change the post count. The packing runs again until the two agree.
- 04A sentence longer than the limit is cut at the last space that fits, and the number of hard cuts is reported so you can go back and shorten that sentence instead of accepting the break.
Assumptions and limits
- This is a plain character count. X measures some characters differently and shortens links to a fixed length, so a post containing a link will measure differently on the platform than it does here.
- Nothing is posted anywhere. This produces text you paste yourself.
- Sentence detection splits on periods, question marks, and exclamation marks, so abbreviations will split early and produce a shorter post than expected.
- The reserved characters are applied to the final post only, and the reservation is approximate when the post count shifts during packing.
